Our Catholic Faith Through Catechism
Educating our youth with the Catholic Church's teachings about God through scriptures, ministries, sacraments and traditions.Catechism Coordinator: Dianne Aquino dianneaquino.sjc.catechism@gmail.com
As recommended by the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, we use the FINDING GOD Catechism Program. Catechism consists of 8 Levels.
The children are registered for Level 1 when they are entering Grade 1 in school.
Level 2 consists of preparation of 2 Sacraments: Reconciliation (Confession); and Eucharist (First Communion). First Communion is usually celebrated in May.
Levels 3 - 8 consist of a different focus for each level: Such as The Old Testament, Sacraments, Church History, etc.
After completion of Level 8, the students return in January of the following year to begin Confirmation preparation. If the student feels he/she is ready, Confirmation usually takes place in May with Archbishop Richard Gagnon presiding.
For children over the age of 7, there is a Special Class, similar to Level 2, to prepare them for Reconciliation and Eucharist. The next year the students return and go on to complete Level 3 - 8.

Since Parents are the First Catechists we need the support of the parents to ensure the children have completed all homework, know their prayers, and attend every class.
For parishioners who are over the age of 18 and have been Confirmed, please consider becoming a Catechist. We always need new Catechists and Subs, especially since our Program is growing. The Coordinator and fellow Catechists will be happy to help you. You can start by shadowing. Please contact Dianne at dianneaquino.sjc.catechism@gmail.com
